Hodeida. The Israeli army bombed ports and power plants this Sunday in Hodeida, a region of western Yemen under the control of the Houthi rebels, the Al Masirah network, controlled by the insurgents, reported.
The Israeli army also announced that it bombed rebel positions in Yemen.
The Houthis, allies of Iran – like the Lebanese Hezbollah movement and the Palestinian group Hamas – opened a front against Israel in “solidarity” with the Palestinians of Gaza. On Saturday they claimed responsibility for a missile shot at the Tel Aviv airport.
“A new Israeli aggression targeted the port of the city of Hodeida and Ras Issa in the province of the same name, as well as two power plants,” said Al Masirah.
The Israeli army indicated for its part that “during a large-scale air operation, dozens of air force planes (…) attacked military targets of the Houthi terrorist regime in the regions of Ras Issa and Hodeida.”
“The power plants and a seaport” attacked were “used by the Houthis to transport Iranian weapons in the region and supplies for military needs,” added an army spokesman, David Avraham, in a statement to AFP.
“The bombing was carried out in response to the recent attacks by the Houthi regime against the State of Israel,” he said.
On Saturday, the Houthis claimed that Israel’s assassination of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah will “strengthen their resolve” to attack Israel.
The rebels have launched several attacks against Israel since the start of the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip triggered by Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Last July, they carried out a drone strike against Tel Aviv that killed a civilian.
In retaliation, Israel then launched attacks on a power plant and fuel depots in the port of Hodeida.
The Houthis, who control large areas of Yemen, belong to what Iran – Israel’s sworn enemy – calls the “axis of resistance”, which includes especially Hamas and Hezbollah.
They also regularly attack ships they consider related to Israel, the United States or the United Kingdom in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
