A week before the start of the Liebherr European Championships in the Linz TipsArena, Linz will be the center of table tennis: in the men’s Bundesliga, the hits of the round will rise in the Lissfeld on Friday and Sunday with the matches against semi-finalists Sparkasse Salzburg and runner-up Felbermayr Wels. Neo-coach Josef Plachy’s team is of course once again relying on Youssef Abdelaziz, who leads the league rankings with 5-0 wins. Despite three opening successes, the Linzers are warned against the winless Salzburg team: The Mozartstadt team had victory in mind against Wels and had to accept a 3-3 draw. The Frenchman Abdel Salifou had not yet reached his normal form. On Sunday there will be a derby clash against Wels. Last year there were two draws, only in the semi-finals were the Messestadt team able to prevail 4-0 and 4-1 against a weakened Linz team. The Welsers come to the Danube from Friday’s top match at Panaceo Stockerau with European Championship hopes Andreas Levenko and Maciej Kolodziejczyk, who recently shone on the WTT Tour.
On Sunday morning, the Linz AG champion ladies led by Ivana Malobabic will face co-favorite Stockerau. In the afternoon, LZ Linz challenges the Lower Austrians with EM starter Karoline Mischek. There will be an internal club derby on Tuesday.
Baden men lost top players
That was a stab in the hearts of the Baden fans: No. 1 Amin Ahmadian shone with 4-1 victories in the first three rounds, but then the figurehead was suddenly revoked of his right to asylum and ordered back to Iran by the authorities. It was a “personal tragedy” for the casino townspeople, but they had to react and quickly signed 21-year-old Yanshash Malik. “The Indian will hardly be able to fill Amin’s gap,” said coach Andreas Meixner dejectedly. Newly promoted Kufstein would like to take advantage of the new opportunity on Friday and score points in Baden. The Lower Austrians will probably be outsiders against Kennelbach on Sunday. Master SolexConsult Wr. Neustadt, on the other hand, is the clear favorite on Friday against Kennelbach and on Sunday against Kufstein.
