Slim acquires greater control over Talos Energy

The Slim family is close to owning a quarter of the total shares of the US oil company Talos Energy, since through the Control Empresarial de Capitales trust it acquired more ordinary securities.

According to a report sent by the firm to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the country’s wealthiest businessman, Carlos Slim Helú and his family members, own 43 million 445 thousand 604 bonds. ordinary, with a nominal value of 0.01 dollar for each one.

“The common shares held by Control Empresarial de Capitales constitute approximately 24.1 percent of the 180 million 153 thousand 856 common shares issued and in circulation,” the firm noted in the document.

Talos Energy owns a 17.7 percent stake in the Zama megafield, located off the coast of Tabasco, leading the private consortium that is partnering with Pemex to develop and explore the field.

The American oil company identifies Carlos Slim Helú, Carlos Slim Domit, Marco Antonio Slim Domit, Patrick Slim Domit, María Soumaya Slim Domit, Vanessa Paola Slim Domit and Johanna Monique Slim Domit as the Slim family, that is, beneficiaries of the trust that owns all the capital securities with voting rights issued and in circulation of Control Empresarial de Capitales, formerly Inversora Carso.

Due to the above, “they can be considered indirect owners of the common shares held by Control Empresarial,” said Talos Energy.

In recent months, the Slim family has acquired shares of the American energy firm on several occasions. As of September 6, it owned 23.6 percent of the common shares.

In addition to this, in September 2023 it acquired 49.9 percent of the subsidiary Talos Mexico, while the remaining 50.1 percent is still owned by Talos Energy.

Throughout this year, the country’s wealthiest businessman also acquired the entire share capital of the oil firm PetroBal Operaciones Upstream, while announcing that he will collaborate with Pemex to reactivate Lakach, a gas field located in the Gulf of Mexico.
