John Obi Mikel: “Didier Drogba is a role model for…”

Former Nigeria international John Obi Mikel has spoken about Didier Drogba’s impact on African players at Chelsea.

“Didier Drogba took care of young African players at Chelsea. He was a model, a dream model for all Africans around the worldindicated Mikel Obi.

A model of success, Didier Drogba’s exceptional career continues to inspire young people to this day.

These two football legends succeeded in making Africans love their club through their performances.

It should be remembered that in an old interview, former player Mikel Obi revealed that Africa discovered the English club Chelsea thanks to him and Didier Drogba.

“In Africa, people started supporting Chelsea mainly because of me and Didier Drogba. In Nigeria, Chelsea became popular because of me and later because of Victor Moses”he said.

The midfielder spent a decade with the Blues. From 2006 to 2016, Mikel Obi defended the colors of Chelsea, winning the Champions League in 2012, two Premier Leagues (2009/2010, 2014/2015) and many other titles.

After leaving Chelsea, Mikel Obi played for lesser known clubs like Trabzonspor, Middlesbrough, and finished his career at Stoke City.

The former Nigerian player shared a large part of his career with Didier Drogba.

The latter also spent almost a decade at Chelsea, from 2004 to 2015.

They shared practically the same collective record. Unlike Mikel Obi, Didier Drogba spent most of his career at Chelsea.

The club has also had great African players like Michael Essien, Geremi Njitap, Salomon Kalou, Samuel Eto’o and George Weah.
