Faced with the increase in the number of people living in precarious conditions, the fight against food waste is more relevant than ever. The SOLAAL association, founded in 2013 and supported by the reusable container manufacturer IFCO and the Carrefour Foundation, has established itself as a key player in this field. Since its creation, the association has saved 35,000 tonnes of products, the equivalent of 70 million meals distributed, made up of 96% fresh produce.
In 2023, nearly 3,376 tonnes of products, or the equivalent of 6.7 million meals, were offered by donors. And this, despite a 13% drop in donations due to often poor harvests and poor weather conditions. In 2023, 530 donors offered their food via SOLAAL. Among them, 296 did so for the first time. The products offered were of great variety: there were 93 varieties of fruits and vegetables. Potatoes, endives and tomatoes are the vegetables most frequently offered. A strong increase in donations of dairy products was also noted, with 258 tonnes distributed, eight times more than in 2022.
