Review, Police | A theft was reported – he received an unbelievable letter from the police. Then the matter took another turn

(Haugesund newspaper): In mid-September you could read a slightly absurd story in Avis Haugesund.

Trygve Spångberg’s trailer was stolen. In the few hours after he reported the theft, the case kept on new and unexpected attempts.

As time passed on the evening of Thursday, September 12, this became the story of, among other things, two identical Volvos, 800 kg of debris, a car owner in Cyprus and a number plate that had traveled with -at least 330 km.

Spångberg was naturally relieved that his trailer had finally been recovered, and that the police had the person or persons who committed the theft under control.

I got a reply to the review

However, it should and seems to be in the case of another dispute.

In response to his report about the theft of the trailer and the damage it caused, Spångberg received a letter from the police this week.

The content and message both surprised and frustrated the traffic school teacher.

In the first paragraph of the letter, the police had written the following:

You are hereby informed that the case has been closed because the police do not have enough information to identify the person(s) who committed the crime.

Given

– Isn’t that absolutely ridiculous? The police were talking to this woman shortly after they found the trailer and the car. She admitted then and there that she had stolen both the trailer and the license plate, Spångberg told Haugesund’s Avis.

He believes we are headed for a strange society if such actions have no consequences.

– It has been free to do as you wish, and Norway has become a true cowboy state, says Spångberg, before adding:

– There is no doubt who the people are in custody or what they did. In my mind, the police should have enough to bang the hammer on the table and hand out the punishment.

The period should be a comma

After receiving the letter, Spångberg tried to call the police to get a more detailed explanation of why his case was dropped.

– I have tried to call them, but I am then put through to someone who does not pick up the phone. The police haven’t called me back either.

When Haugesund’s Avis calls the Sør-Vest police district, however, it may seem that the dismissal letter to Spångberg is not the last chapter in the trailer theft saga after all.

– In our systems, it seems that this case is active and is still under investigation, informs the communication adviser in the South-West police district, Hilde Urdal Fløysvik.

– A very interesting development

To verify this new information, she asks the newspaper to contact the police prosecutor Anne Marthe Møinichen.

And in a short SMS to Haugesund’s Avis on Wednesday, Møinichen can state the following: The case against Trygve Spångberg has not been dropped.

– This was a very interesting development. It will be interesting to hear the follow up, is his response when he receives the counter message from the newspaper.

He hasn’t heard anything from the police yet.

In an email to the police prosecutor, Haugesund’s Avis has asked Møinichen several questions, related both to this particular case and in general to wording used in dismissal letters. a position like the one Spångberg received.

The response received by the newspaper is short and specific:

The police had opened a case themselves, and moreover the victim reported the matter to the police. So there was a double entry in our criminal case register, so one case was dismissed. This may give the wrong impression that the case has been dismissed, for which we apologize. The police are investigating the case, and three people in their 30s are under charges.

– Creative group

In other words: Trygve Spångberg’s case was not dismissed.

The letter in which the police state that the case has been closed should never have been sent, or at least it should have been written in a different way.

– It was good, then. Then it will be interesting to see what punishment they get, Spångberg replied, before deciding:

– It was a creative group, damn it. They should get a job where they can use their creativity.
