Lima, Sep 30 (EFE).- Peru will face Uruguay and Brazil in October, in crucial matches of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup without the presence of the experienced forward Paolo Guerrero, the midfielder André Carrillo or the creative Christian Cueva .
These players, whose eventual return to the Bicolor had been widely commented on by local media in recent days, were left off the Bicolor roster, announced by coach Jorge Fossati.
Guerrero has had an irregular performance since his arrival at Alianza Lima, at the beginning of this month, while Cueva has few minutes with Cienciano and Carrillo joined Corinthians, from Brazil, last week.
In this way, Fossati’s call is led by the Italian-Peruvian forward of Cagliari Gianluca Lapadula, the midfielder of the Spanish Leganés Renato Tapia and the Argentine-Peruvian creative Horacio Calcaterra, from the Universitario de Deportes.
Fossati, who took over the leadership of the Bicolor last January, maintained the backbone of his last calls, with goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, defender Carlos Zambrano, midfielder Luis Advíncula and forward Edison Flores.
On this occasion, the coach added the Alianza Lima defender Renzo Garcés, the Melgar midfielder Jean Pierre Archimbaud and the Universitario striker José Rivera, as well as keeping in the call, as a guest, the winger Maxloren Castro, 16 years old and a figure of the Sporting Cristal.
Peru, which currently occupies the last position in the South American qualifiers, with only 3 points in eight games, will host Uruguay on October 11 and four days later will visit Brazil.
