Linz mourns the death of former ÖVP local councilor Karl Pree

The city of Linz mourns the loss of local councilor i. R. Karl Pree, who died on September 22, 2024 at the age of 90. Karl Pree was born on October 7, 1934 in Reichenthal in the Mühlviertel. After attending the local elementary school and the Bad Leonfelden secondary school, Pree attended the humanistic high school in Wilhering Abbey. Pree studied law in Vienna and Innsbruck and received his Dr. iur. doctorate.

As part of his professional career, Karl Pree was an employee of the Agricultural and Forestry Social Insurance Institute and also a legal officer at the General Accident Insurance Institute in the Linz regional office. In 1969 he took over the management of the legal department there. Until his retirement in 1995, Pree carried out the duties of deputy director of the AUVA.

From 1985 to 1997, Pree was a member of the Linz municipal council, and since 1991 also as chairman of the ÖVP parliamentary group. Among other things, Karl Pree was active in the control committee, in the planning, building construction and building regulations committee, in the garden and cemetery committee, in the district property traffic commission and in the board of trustees of the Linz University Fund for the well-being of the city of Linz and its residents.

His political style was characterized by a strong sense of responsibility and great determination. In addition to his work in the Linz city parliament and as parliamentary group leader of the ÖVP Linz, Pree also worked on the board of trustees of the Linz University Fund, in the “Youth and Leisure” association and as a social officer in the ÖAAB Linz-Stadt district.
