On September 29th, Klagenfurter Austria played in Graz. A hoped-for victory for the GAK 1902 failed to materialize. The game ended with a 1-0 win for our guests.
Football god, where are you?
The GAK 1902 starts with a changed lineup. Vučić and Maderner are the leaders on today’s matchday. Both teams started the first half calmly and didn’t risk too much in the first 20 minutes; the shots on goal were relatively safe.
The first shot on goal came from SK Austria Klagenfurt in the 3rd minute and was easily cleared by Maierhofer. One has the impression that the GAK 1902 is taking command, but is not yet able to fight its way through. In minute 15 our guests are back. A free kick from Wernitznig to Robatsch, who is standing in the center. However, he heads the ball well over the goal. Less than 10 minutes later, in the 24th minute, the first big chance for our boys: The ball comes forward in a quick play via Maderner and finds its receiver in Cipot. Cipot shoots at the near corner, but Spari clears. In the 34th minute there was another standard situation for Klagenfurt: After a corner, Robatsch prevailed in a header duel with Filipović in the air and hit the goal. New score: 1-0 for Klagenfurt. Shortly before the break, GAK 1902 becomes dangerous again. Maderner gets the ball in the visitors’ virtually empty penalty area, but picking up the ball isn’t that easy, which is why the Carinthians follow suit and Maderner’s shot goes past the far corner. An equalizer before the break would have been it! Football god, where are you?
Guys, wake up!
In the second round, SK Austria Klagenfurt becomes dangerous in the 46th minute! Bobzien slams the ball onto the crossbar on the right wing with force. This is an announcement! In the next quarter of an hour our boys will wake up and be more playful and creative. Now it is the exploitation of opportunities that is causing us failure. In the 53rd minute it was our captain Perchtold’s turn and shot from a confusing position at the opponent’s goal, which he unfortunately missed by two or three meters. A few moments later it is Perchtold again who tries to equalize. This time at the height of a penalty, but the ball ends up over the goal. The Carinthians won’t put up with this and head towards Maierhofer: Bobzien on Binder – 2-0! The referee team blows the whistle for offside – the hit doesn’t count! Football god, is that you? In the final phase, substitute Cheukoua made his presence felt. Working in partnership between Italiano and Cheukoua, the two managed to get the ball into the SKA penalty area, but Cheukoua fell to the ground during the shot, the shot was too weak and Spari was able to defend his goal. A few minutes later, Cheukoua tries again. The Cameroonian receives the ball from Frieser in a dangerous position in the opponent’s penalty area – the ball does not roll over the line.
Our boys were no longer able to equalize and so the game ended with a win for the Klagenfurt team. Football god…
