Tadej Pogacar, road champion

The Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar (6:27:30) has entered the select club of winners of the Giro, Tour and World Triple Crown after his impressive victory in the road race of the cycling world championships in Zurich, emulating Eddy Merckx y Stephen Rochethey achieved it in 1974 and 1987, respectively.

Second was the Australian O`Connor (+34), and third Van der Poel (+58) in the sprint for the bronze medal with Enric Mas, very active throughout the day, in eighth place.

The qualifiers are beginning to run out to define each new performance by Pogacar, who already this year won the Strade Bianche with an attack 80 kilometers from the end, 20 less than the acceleration this Sunday on the way to Zurich to put on his first rainbow jersey.

An attack for history

The race was shaping up very hard over a route of 273.9 km con departure in Winterthur and arrival in Zurich full of walls and with 4,470 meters of accumulated unevenness, which barely had a first part of uncertainty until this cycling extraterrestrial surprised everyone again, not because of the victory, but because of the early nature of the attack.

Belgium and Slovenia set the pace before the escape of Dillier, Foss, Geschke, Rui Oliveira, Wirtgen and Pekalawho came to march with more than five minutes ahead of the peloton, while Julian Alaphilppe and Mikel Landa said goodbye to the race after falling.

The Slovenian was flying ahead and, with 32 kilometers to go, he maintained a lead of one minute with respect to the duo formed by Healy and Skujinsv, while Enric Mas and Roger Adriá were one minute and twenty seconds behind along with Van der Poel and Evenepoel, Hirschi and O’Connor.

With Pogacar savoring victory in the final meters, the Australian O’Connor accelerated alone to win the silver medal while Van der Poel won the bronze medal sprint with Enric Mas in eighth place.
