Sofia / world today news/ The incredible Japanese drummers “Yamato” will present their new program on March 1, 2012 in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia as part of their 2011-12 world tour “Gamushara – The Beat of Courage”
In the changing and fragile world we live in, the Japanese Yamato drummers raise their heads and call us to seek and mark our purpose and stand for it with dignity. Their answer is “Gamushara – The Beat of Courage”.
The words of the artistic director and creator of Yamato Masa Ogawa give a detailed explanation of the idea behind the title “Gamushara – The Beat of Courage”.
Gamushara means single-mindedness – it is the state in which you pursue a goal without thinking about what will come next.
First let’s ask: Are you longing for a dream? Do you have a vision for the future?
Once you find it, don’t think constantly, just go in that direction. Because this is about ecstatic enthusiasm.
Does anyone worry that they think you’re a fool or accuse you of being caught up in the whims of youth.
Start running!
Someone once said…..
“There is no road before me, only traces behind!”
Don’t be afraid!
Keep running, chase Gamushara!
The Beat of Courage
Are we in a long and dark tunnel or in a dense fog?
What should we do to get out of this situation?
And what lies beyond?
The world around us perfectly illustrates the Japanese proverb: “Everything is dark one step ahead!”
I thought about this as I wandered through the streets of our settlement – what is required of us at this moment, when it is impossible to predict what will follow tomorrow? Will we hold on or will we surrender? Or are we going crazy?
We must realize that we live in a time where we need to activate our five senses: hearing, sight, touch, taste and smell. With all wisdom and knowledge we must devote all our efforts to create a new path.
What do we need?
Energy!
We must collect the powerful rhythm of our hearts and project it into the future.
Let us cry out feverishly like a newborn baby announcing its existence to the world. Let’s rush into the future by sharing this moment together – we are alive now – regardless of age and surroundings.
People are together in a circle and focused on the drum.
The steady heartbeat – pure energy quickly fills the air.
Today I also beat the drum and believe that this energy will help us find a way to the future.
The key is to be purposeful, to be “Gamushara”.
Let’s feel the powerful impact together.
And the future will surely reveal itself to us more clearly.
It all started at a festival in Toichi, Kashihara-shi in the Nara district. We performed a composition of mine called “Huyga” and then a journalist asked me the name of the composition to mention it in his article and I said what came to mind spontaneously “Yamato” – it turned out that the name suits us , despite some telling me it sounds like the name of a roadside cafe. This participation opened the door to our future performances, which today number 150-200 per year worldwide, and the number of drummers grew from four to fifteen people.
We went to China in 1994 – exactly one year after we started and played to 20,000 people in four shows. A tour followed in other Asian countries, including Indonesia, South Korea and Singapore. In 1997-99 we toured South America, covering at least 10,000 km each visit. 1999 was the year we took part in the Edinburgh Festival and were flattered in the press as “soul music”. This marked the beginning of our world tours.
In the village of Asuka with more than a thousand years of history,
Yamato seek depth of expression through the Wadaiko drum. “Go where you are invited and make people happy” is our motto and we travel the world with it.”
