The meeting room of the Chamber of Chania had long experienced such glories. Suffocatingly full and with people waiting on the stairs, waiting for the opening speech in the race to claim the presidency of SYRIZA by Pavlos Polakis.
At party events in recent years, it is customary for party officials to come and take place in a fairly close circle, but on Sunday at EBEX the picture was significantly different. Men and women from various social groups, workers, small and medium-sized professionals, people without party parchments and of course – it could not be otherwise – many Sfakians were at the gathering on Sunday, together with local SYRIZA officials.
The Member of Parliament of Chania received a warm welcome from those gathered and presented the basic elements of the program with which he is entering the presidential elections.
“The memorial laws are not ten commandments”, said, among other things, Mr. Polakis, adding that their gradual abolition is required.
He spoke about bringing at least one bank back into the public domain, about regulating private debt in a unified way, about returning PPC under public control, but also about the gradual return under public control of strategic infrastructures that were privatized, such as airports and ports.
He referred to interventions in the judiciary with the creation of a second school of judges, full digitization, etc., to substantial decentralization by breaking the “staff state” of the ND, but also to the repeal of the laws of the current government that have brought the public health system to the brink of collapse .
Against the background of recent reports about the possible start of discussions between Greece and Turkey on some issues that may concern the Aegean, Mr. Polakis clarified that the two countries only have to discuss the EEZ and the continental shelf, and that Greece has no other differences with Turkey. He also emphasized that our country must support the unified defense doctrine with Cyprus, which in recent years has practically disappeared from the public debate.
Thus, the MP of Chania of SYRIZA and candidate for president, started the pre-election campaign and in the next period it is expected to intensify.
