Vezhdi Rashidov’s previous interview with BNB Governor Ivan Iskrov shook society.
Mutual accusations were made, but the situation around KTB continues to get more complicated.
We tried to look into the genesis of the relations between Iskrov, Rashidov, KTB and BNB.
The former minister of culture and current candidate-deputy from GERB answered frankly to all our questions.
– Mr. Rashidov, how did you calculate that Ivan Iskrov’s salary is BGN 90,000 per month?
– Ivan Iskrov is the highest paid civil servant. I say it most responsibly. By law, his salary is formed from among the salaries of the directors of the six best banks in Bulgaria.
There’s nothing wrong with that, but when a person gets the highest salary in the government hierarchy, he has to do his job. During the time when I was the Minister of Culture, I received a salary of 2,600 BGN, which I donated to orphans all the time.
I remembered that I donated money to an orphan from the village of Botevgrad, raised a blind child in the Braille school and allocated money for a scholarship to a girl for the university.
When a person, like Iskrov, who wants to keep his high salary for two terms, then he, as a civil servant, of course has his addictions.
In an interview with the PIK Agency, I urged him to give up his addictions and leave the post.
– How do you explain the threat that Iskrov will put you on trial?
– With the fact that he has a guilty conscience. Guzen runs away unhurt.
– Should Iskrov publicly announce the amount of his remuneration?
– I want to clarify that I am not one of the biggest investors in KTB. My money is transparent. Unlike some oligarchs, I have publicly declared what I have, then paid taxes and uploaded information to the website of the Audit Office.
It is not correct for the media to spin me on a spit for my money. I didn’t steal my money. Someone is stealing our money and this criminal case has another issue. This question is – who steals the money of the Bulgarian citizens? How much that money is doesn’t matter. When people say – it’s a hack for the KTB depositors, they say it’s a hack for them to be poor.
I do not pay garbage tax of 50 BGN per year. I sell my works and pay income tax on the money I receive. This money goes to the budget and goes to insurance.
Bulgaria should be happy for each of its taxpayers. Apparently a lot of people don’t get it.
If Iskrov is a man, let him declare his salary and upload it to the website of the Audit Chamber, as ministers do.
Here my money was illuminated, right there should have been bank secrecy for me.
Let Iskrov light up his money too, if he is a man’s boy. He must also answer the question in which banks he keeps his money – in Bulgaria or abroad!
As a Bulgarian, I keep my money in a Bulgarian bank, and I have paid 8% of the interest to the state.
It’s not right for me to feel uncomfortable that someone is stealing from me. Those who steal and attack the bank should feel uncomfortable, they should bear their responsibility.
– How do you explain Iskrov’s behavior at the moment?
– He keeps pounding the ball to get the hot potato off him and pass it to Parliament.
For two years, KTB gave high interest rates of 7-8%, while other banks gave 4, 5 and 6%.
I ask – where was the BNB during these years?
I’m begging Iskrov not to shift responsibilities. Since he cannot bear responsibility, let him lose his status as the highest paid official in the country.
Iskrov has violated 22 out of 23 points in the constitution regarding the banks, going to the bankruptcy of the banks from the first day.
If Mr. Iskrov’s pocket is full and his bank accounts are abroad and well protected, then that is a separate matter. With a full stomach, it’s easier to pass gas.
I am a damaged person who feels humiliated thanks to state institutions.
Why does the state not protect its citizens? When it is stolen from the budget and from the European projects, the Bulgarian shouts – they stole the state, this is folk psychology!
But when a Bulgarian reaches into his pocket and steals 1,000 BGN, murders ensue. If there is no state to regulate these processes, it will become scary.
Now everyone is waiting to see what happens with KTB. But if there is no state to administer justice, then it may come to the point that people themselves administer justice, and then I don’t think about it.
Iskrov says that his officials are fainting! I will give you a list of depositors in KTB who have had heart attacks and strokes from worries. I myself fell ill with several diseases in addition to the problems with the bank, because I do not care how someone robs my life.
In KTB is not only the money of private depositors, state money also continues to hang in the bank and many people are without salaries.
– What is your personal relationship with Iskrov?
– Iskrov and I were wonderful friends. Sorry to say it in the past tense. I lobbied for him before Boyko, in the sense that he is a young boy, smiling, cool, radiant, that he is a good expert.
I thought that the Bulgarian banking system was stable, but it turned out not to be. This is not just about me, but about the fate of many people.
I want to tell Iskrov that he has no reason to be afraid of me. I have already been convicted and experienced great humiliation.
I did my job honestly in the ministry as well. I have been through many audits and audits that have found the ministry to be excellent.
I don’t want to think about what I will find if I return to the Ministry of Culture. It is not normal for the ministry to have a deficit of BGN 12 million in August, when I left it as a department with a budget of BGN 123 million.
Dyankov and I smoothly raised the ministry’s budget.
In my time, not a single theater was left without electricity and heating. Not a single Bulgarian artist or creator has met the New Year without a salary, but this year there is such a danger because there is no money.
I ran the ministry with a low budget, but nevertheless we made a unique Odeon cinema, if I come back to the ministry we will officially open it.
I don’t know why Iskrov feels offended by me, but he clearly doesn’t realize that even if the bank opens its doors, he will be held accountable for all the things that the BNB management did to the depositors.
Boyko Borisov also clearly took a position on KTB. That’s a hot potato he’s going to have to deal with.
Rumors are already circulating that inside KTB assets are being sold through shell companies. The prosecutor’s office must go all the way and investigate the hollow companies.
– They accuse you of having indulged in the high interest rates of KTB. Your comment?
– KTB gave the highest interest rates, this is a matter of market economy. I haven’t received a penny from the bank for 10 months.
I’m not a financier to know all the rules. I only found out a while ago that banks guarantee up to BGN 100,000 from deposits. I’m an artist, I didn’t know it before, but that doesn’t mean I have to be robbed.
Since we have over BGN 100,000, should we bankrupt the banks?
