Tragic accident near Graz: A 71-year-old woman dies after a car accident, apparently caused by her husband having a stroke at the wheel, who was seriously injured.
A 71-year-old woman was killed in a traffic accident in St. Radegund near Graz on Saturday afternoon, and her husband (73), who was behind the wheel of his car, suffered serious injuries, the state police headquarters said. The man from Graz apparently suffered a stroke while driving the car and probably stepped on the accelerator. This caused the car to crash into a retaining wall. The woman died at the scene of the accident and the man was flown to the LKH Graz.
Woman (71) died in accident near Graz, husband (73) seriously injured
The 73-year-old was driving with his wife in his car towards the center of St. Radegund (Graz-surroundings district) at around 1:20 p.m. when he suffered the stroke. Although both spouses were wearing seatbelts, they were seriously injured when they hit the retaining wall. The driver was flown to the LKH Graz by the Christophorus 12 rescue helicopter. The wife died after being rescued from the wreck despite resuscitation measures being initiated. The Graz public prosecutor’s office released the woman’s body for burial, and further investigations were still to be carried out, the authorities said.
