Frank Lampardformer coach of Chelseaconfirmed that the Blues were interested in Edson Álvarez when he was still the team’s strategist.
In an interview for Fox Sports, the English coach explained that they considered signing the Mexican midfielder at the time, so he knows his qualities on the field very well.
“I know him well. When I was Chelsea manager he was a player we were looking at with potential. Could he come to Chelsea? Would he be the best fit for us? Obviously it never happened, but I had a great knowledge of him because of that,” said.
Likewise, he recognized the performance that ‘Machín’ has shown since his arrival at the West Ham yy praised their defensive strengths.
“I like his profile as a defensive midfielder. I think there are many things he could do and that he can also play in defence. He is a good, strong player. He had a good season with West Ham last season,” he added.
It should be remembered that, according to various reports, Chelsea made at least a couple of offers to Ajax to keep Álvarez, however, the Dutch team did not accept them, since it intended to earn more money from his sale.
