Mönchengladbach. For a year they faced the challenges of the “Professional Integration of Women with a Migrant Background” course. Now 15 participants from a wide range of international backgrounds will receive their certificate of completion.

The representative for education, culture and sport Christiane Schüßler congratulated 15 women at the beginning of September on their completion of the course “Professional integration of women with a migration background”. In this course at the Mönchengladbach Adult Education Center, the women learned everything they needed for their professional future in Germany. For example, it was about how best to express themselves on the phone or in cover letters. Application coaching was also part of the course. “It’s great that they found their way here, that they persevered despite what were certainly difficult phases. We need them here and they can rightly be proud of themselves!” says Schüßler, highlighting the women’s achievements.

The women all came to Germany from different nations. They worked on their German skills in just over a year. Many people were balancing family and the course. They also applied and further developed their knowledge directly during an internship.

Fit for your professional future

The women got to know the everyday professional world in Germany. Now many of them are continuing their professional paths. Many of them are now doing something completely new professionally. For example, one of the women used to work in chip manufacturing. She is now training to become a nursing specialist. In the group of women, the professional future looks different for each of them: including childcare, hairdressing or training to become an IT specialist.

In the course you learned how you can use your professional skills and qualifications in Germany. They trained in professionally qualifying content, for example in the areas of language and IT, in order to make it easier to enter the local job market.

Daniela Dhiab, head of market and integration at the job center and job center team leader of the Ü24 placement Friederike Flügge also congratulated the women on their graduation. This course is only possible thanks to the good cooperation and financing from the job center. There have already been 18 editions of this course in collaboration between the VHS and the job center.

The next course with other women is currently running. They all want to emulate this year’s women. They would like to receive their certificate of completion in September next year.

Those interested in future courses can also contact the VHS project manager Cleopatra Altanis.
