Medicines Authority chairman: Drug shortage crisis will end within weeks and A

Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, the head of the Medicines Authority of Egypt, announced that the crisis of shortage of some medicines that Egypt has seen recently will end in the coming weeks. This came in his speech at the fourth edition of the Al-Ahram Medicine Conference.

Al-Ghamrawi said that the Pharmaceutical Authority of Egypt adopts a clear strategy to set fair prices for medicines in Egypt, indicating that the pharmaceutical industry is not just production but also investment.

He confirmed that Egypt is the first in Arab and African countries in the field of localization of the pharmaceutical industry, because it has a very high level of self-sufficiency. He explained that there is a shortage of medicines in the recent period as a result of how difficult it is to give hard money to buy some medicines.

The head of the Drugs Authority indicated that the Authority is coordinating at a high level with all partners to strengthen continuous communication, indicating that the role of the Authority varies between service and management positions.

He also explained that a great effort is needed to ensure that medicines reach all citizens safely, especially because of the lack of inspectors. In the last eight months, the Authority carried out 76,000 inspections.

Al-Ghamrawi emphasized that the Al-Ahram Conference is considered one of the most important medical events in Egypt, noting that the current edition is important to discuss the issue of medicine, which is part of security national.

He also confirmed the Authority’s commitment to policies that support the pharmaceutical sector in Egypt in line with the national vision.
