October dresses in pink in Necochea to raise awareness about breast cancer, the most common malignant tumor among women. Within this framework, the municipality’s Health Secretariat launches several initiatives to promote the prevention and early diagnosis of this disease.
Free mammograms for womenover 50 years old
Throughout October, women over 50 years of age can go to the nearest Primary Health Care Center (CAPS), regardless of whether they have social insurance, to request a free appointment for a mammogram at the “José Irurzun” Hospital.
Carina Mazeris, Director of Primary Care, states: “Any woman over 50 can go to the nearest CAPS, whether they have social work or not, and there they will organize a subsequent appointment at the mammography machine.” In addition, he mentions that “this allows more shifts to be assigned for control.”
Pink lighting and awareness activities
Throughout the month, the district’s monuments will be illuminated in pink, an invitation to the community to join this cause. The campaign includes carrying out self-examinations, since just three minutes can save lives.
Correcaminata: Celebrating Prevention
To culminate the activities, on Saturday, October 19, a Runwalk will be held in commemoration of World Breast Cancer Prevention and Awareness Day. The concentration will be at 10 in the morning in the Plaza “3 de Agosto” in Quequén, and the participants will travel a total of 6 kilometers to the Virgen de la Rosa Mystica.
There will be health checkpoints (blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and syphilis) and artistic shows for everyone to enjoy.
