The USA assures that it was not warned about the attack in Beirut, and Iran is threatening retaliation

The Pentagon assured this Friday that it had not been informed in advance of the Israeli bombings in the southern suburbs of Beirut known as Dahye, including the headquarters of Hezbollah.

“We received no advance notice,” Pentagon deputy spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said in a press conference, assuring that the United States was not involved in this Israeli operation.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke this Friday with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant.

For its part, the Iranian embassy in Lebanon said this Friday that the Israeli bombings in Beirut, which today claimed at least two lives, played a role “A dangerous escalation that changes the rules of the game.”

“There is no doubt that this reprehensible crime and reckless behavior represents a dangerous escalation that changes the rules of the game and requires appropriate punishment and discipline for the perpetrator,” said a statement from the diplomatic headquarters on X.

Media reported, citing anonymous sources, that the target of this Friday’s Israeli attack on Hezbollah’s headquarters in a Beirut suburb was the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. His fate is unknown.

This is the sixth attack on the area since the crossfire between the parties began on October 8, 2023 and the fourth in just a week.

Iran is one of Lebanon and Hezbollah’s main allies and leads them an informal anti-Israel alliance that, in addition to the Lebanese group, was formed by, among others, the Palestinians from Hamas and the Houthis in Yemen.
