After the death of Belmondo, then of Delon, is Brigitte Bardot, 90 years old, the last big star in a world dominated by influencers, YouTubers? “It is the last great representative of a certain type of French cinema which made people dream with great quality, which was exported wonderfully”, affirms on RTL microphone Vincent Perrot, author of the tribute book Brigitte Bardot, Internationale BB.
It was also “a bit of the emblem of France in the world”recalls the journalist. Initially, thanks to the film And God… created woman (1956) which launched the actress into stardom (before suddenly ending her career at the age of 38). “For everyone, it’s a triumph, a masterpiece. Except that it’s not true in France,” he emphasizes. And to continue: “Initially, this film was received very timidly and very lukewarmly. A certain male population was not at all insensitive to the charm, the sex appeal, the glamor that she exuded. But many journalists would never have dared to write it in the columns of their newspapers.”
The world triumph, recalls Vincent Perrot, “started from the United States”. This film was released in “several major cities”, because it was a “American co-production”. Believing at the time that the Americans “were not choosy”.
“Everyone started copying it”
In truth, the Bardot “shock wave” then quickly arrived in France” as well as in the four corners of the planet. “Everyone started to love her, to admire her, to envy her, to copy her. Copy the hairstyle, clothing styles, shoes, ballerina fashion, makeup. It’s quite incredible all the same,” observes the latter.
He recently heard from her. “She is doing well, she is happy with her husband Bernard. She continues to campaign for the defense of animals, the fight of her life”. Without forgetting that she “loves to write”. Brigitte Bardot responds “to the people who write to her”. Except that at the moment, “she is completely overwhelmed by events, herself surprised by the scale of this anniversary.” Because, hold on tight, “she currently receives an average of five kilos of mail per day from all over the world”.
