This was stated by PES President Sergey Stanishev at the National Congress of the Left in Buzludzha.
“Both Europe and Bulgaria are facing severe trials. At this time, only socialists can lead to a change that will give new hope, personal security and perspective to our society. There is no one else who can do it – both in Bulgaria and in Europe. That is why we need unity, the will to win and a bright campaign that will win the hearts of the Bulgarians. I am convinced that the BSP can present candidates for president and vice president who will win the elections, be guarantors of the country’s security, conduct a balanced foreign policy with self-confidence and tact. To prove that the presidential institution can be close to people’s everyday problems and have clear social commitments. The BSP’s responsibility is great, and that is why here in Buzludzha we must give the sign of unity and tell each other that everyone will do everything necessary for the success of the elections.”
“We all remember the campaign and the results of the presidential and vice-presidential elections in 2011. We remember the predictions – BSP had the sure third place. But our strong applications, our united efforts and a good campaign turned the game. We also know which presidential couple won the minds and hearts of Bulgarians. Our result was stolen – in the sections, in the commissions. (Plevneliev – 1,698,136, 52.58%; Kalfin – 1,531,193, 47.42%; difference of 167,000 votes.)
But Lambo’s words remained with our compatriots: A new day is coming for Bulgaria! Let’s make it a reality,” continued Stanishev.
“The real battle in these elections will be BSP – GERB. And winning the presidential vote will pave the way for the left to victory in next year’s early parliamentary elections,” said the leader of the socialists in Europe.
