Juanes celebrated 20 years of ‘Mi Sangre’ and thanked his fans: “It has left me with a lot of joy”

For Juanes, 2024 was an especially busy year. The Antioquian starred in a national tour called ‘Juan Es Colombia Tour’, in which he visited Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Pereira and Bucaramanga in the month of May, which allowed him to once again perform his greatest hits with his compatriots. Added to this was his acting debut in the film Pimperinero: Blood and Gasolinedirected by Andrés ‘Andy’ Baiz, and his recent participation in the renowned “Tiny Desk Sessions” on American public radio.

At the same time, it was a special year, since 20 years have passed My Bloodhis third album as a soloist and one of the most important of his career. The artist remembered this anniversary and took the opportunity to thank his fans for the impact that songs like The Black Shirt, See you againo I’m worth nothing without your love on radio stations throughout the Hispanic world.

“This year marks 20 years since the launch of My Bloodan album that, personally, has left me with a lot of joy, and for that reason I want to thank all the fans around the world immensely for continuing to give life to those songs,” Juanes wrote on his Instagram account, accompanying a video with which he announced what will be his last dates of the year in Paraguay, Chile, Ecuador and the United States.

“Thank you always to all my fans. It is always an honor to see you again and continue singing my songs with you 20 years later,” the same message reads.

Additionally, the artist published on his Instagram stories that Spotify chose him as the cover of the playlist of “Essential” songs of Latin American music. There he joined I’m worth nothing without your love to top the list, sharing space with Juan Luis Guerra, Carlos Vives, Marc Anthony, Fonseca, Bacilos, Shakira, Karol G, among many other artists who have contributed to enriching the list of traditional Latin hits.

Although it was with a normal day (2002) when he reached internationalization and published what is considered his masterpiece to date, My Blood achieved similar levels of success.

Co-produced by the singer along with Gustavo Santaolalla and Anibal Kerpel (with whom he had already worked in a normal day), the recording sessions took place in places such as Los Angeles and Miami, and as happened in its predecessor, a balance was sought between the pop rock base and the addition of traditional Colombian rhythms.

The result was a collection of themes that addressed romantic relationships, but also had a message of social awareness oriented to love and peace that was significant at a time when the internal armed conflict in Colombia was at one of its highest points.

It is estimated that to date it has sold about 4 million copies worldwide.
