New York: Netanyahu will give a speech on Friday

By calling for a 21-day ceasefire in the Middle East, a group of states around the US and Germany, along with important Arab countries, are putting pressure on Israel and Hezbollah. The break in fighting should create space for a diplomatic solution to the conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon as well as the nearly year-long Gaza war, according to a joint statement by the ‘ a group of ten states and the EU.

He goes on to say that a large regional increase is not in the interest of anyone, neither the people of Israel nor the people of Lebanon. Diplomacy cannot be successful if the conflict escalates. All parties are asked to agree to the proposal for a temporary ceasefire and thus give a real chance to a diplomatic agreement. The statement was issued jointly by the US, Germany, the EU, Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

The initiative came from the US and France

Their joint call goes back to a campaign with the US and France. US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron had previously said in a joint statement that it was time to reach an agreement on the border between Israel and Lebanon that would guarantee security so that civilians can return to their homes. As a result of the fighting since October last year and especially in the last two weeks, there is a risk of a much greater conflict and damage to the civilian population. That’s why they were working on convening a temporary truce. (DPA)
