The action franchise celebrated its most recent peak with the fourth “John Wick” film, but “The Continental,” on the other hand, was not quite as well received by fans. The trailer for “Ballerina” now gives the first glimpses of the upcoming cinema spin-off with Ana de Armas.
With the “John Wick” series, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch not only gave “Matrix” star Keanu Reeves his big Hollywood comeback, they also created one of the most popular cinema worlds of recent times – which regularly causes enthusiasm among action fans . According to many fans and the trade press, the contract killer saga celebrated its latest and greatest peak to date with “John Wick 4”. The prequel series “The Continental,” which was released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, was received less favorably. But the franchise will soon be back on the big screen – and thus back on the road to success?
The first trailer for “Ballerina“ now gets in the mood for the “John Wick” spin-off coming in 2025, which will be released in US cinemas on June 6th – and then tells a story that is separate from the story of John Wick, played by Reeves, and will center on a professional killer embodied by shooting star Ana de Armas.
Below you can watch the trailer for “From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina” (which is now the official title of the film) in the original English:
Ana de Armas lets it rip again!
Cuban-born de Armas has become one of the dream factory’s most sought-after actresses in recent years. In addition to her roles in the masterful science fiction sequel “Blade Runner 2049” by Denis Villeneuve and the no less brilliant detective crime thriller “Knives Out – Murder is a Family Matter”, she proved herself in “James Bond 007 – No Time to Die” and ” The Gray Man” also as an action actress – a quality that should now also play a major role in “Ballerina”. She was also nominated for an Oscar for the first time for her portrayal of Marylin Monroe in the controversial Netflix hit “Blonde”.
In the “John Wick” spin-off, the 35-year-old takes on the role of a young woman who trains to be a killer in order to take revenge on her family’s murderers – and receives both prominent and well-known support. Not only Keanu Reeves will be stopping by again, the cast also includes Ian McShane as Continental veteran Winston and Anjelica Huston as “Director”. Lance Reddick, who died in March 2023, will also be seen in one of his last roles as concierge Charon.
New to the party are “The Walking Dead” audience favorite Norman Reedus, Gabriel Byrne (“The Usual Suspects”) and contract killer film cult star Anne Parillaud (“Nikita”). Directed by “Underworld” creator and “Die Hard 4” maker Len Wiseman. In addition, a real audience favorite in the series will soon be getting his own film.
