Residents of the San José and Los Arces neighborhoods expressed their concern about insecurity
The San José Neighborhood Commission held an urgent meeting with local and provincial authorities in charge of security this Wednesday night at the neighborhood headquarters, which was attended by RAFAELA NEWSResidents of the Los Arces neighborhood also participated in the meeting, sharing the same concerns about the insecurity affecting the area.
On behalf of the authorities, the following were present: Secretary for Security Prevention of the Municipality, Juan Manuel Martínez Saliba; the coordinator of the Neighborhood Area, Marcia Tamagnini; the representative of the Ministry of Security in the Castellanos department, Sebastián Rancagno; the head of Public Order of the Regional Unit V, Darío Picco; and the coordinator between the GUR and the neighborhood associations, Cristian Molina. Also present at the meeting was the Provincial Deputy Juan Argañarazas part of the residents of the San José neighborhood. He also contributed his perspective as a legislator regarding current regulations and responsibilities of the different powers and levels of the State.
The main concern raised by citizens had to do with people who wander around during the night, knocking on doors, tearing garbage bags, begging and waiting for any opportunity to steal. “We suspect that they are the same ones who later enter the yards,” said one of the neighbors present. Many of these people are linked to addiction problems. In addition, they are the same ones who are sometimes taken by the police and then the neighbors continue to see them on the street. “In my workshop I had 5 robberies, I made 3 complaints and they told me that when they found something they would call me, but they never called me,” said another citizen, assuring that they know who the thieves are in the sector.
A resident on Gabriel Maggi Street asked for more night patrols in that area, saying that during the day they pass by every 20 minutes but at night they are rarely seen twice.
The municipal authorities commented that they have been working with patrols and joint operations in different neighborhoods of the city in a preventive manner in a coordinated manner between all the forces with favorable results. They also assured that the DIAT of the 2 de Abril neighborhood is being reconfigured to move the workshops that operate there to the neighborhoods and that this place is used specifically to care for people with addiction problems. In addition, as this media already anticipated in another note, the Municipality announced that this Wednesday the first security camera of the 133 new ones that the municipality bought was installed, choosing precisely a sector of the San José neighborhood that borders the Barranquitas neighborhood, such as Gabriel Maggi and Santiago Rodríguez. And they announced that two more cameras will be placed in the sector, as well as in the Los Arces neighborhood.

From the provincial side, the representative of the Ministry of Security in the Castellanos department, Sebastian Rancagno, indicated that his presence at the meeting is in response to “being close to the territory and close to the neighbor.” He added that at the city level they have statistics that indicate that “in recent weeks we have had a decrease in predatory crimes.” When the official was asked about one of the problems raised by the neighbors regarding the people who wander around the neighborhood at night, he indicated that “what people have to do is call the police and the Urban Guard.” He added that it must be made clear that if these people are not committing a crime, they cannot be apprehended, but at least they can be identified and give the neighbor peace of mind that they are not waiting for an opportunity to commit a crime. “We can do that,” he said.
