Mexico City. With the aim of consolidating its position in the national air transport industry, Mexicana de Aviación, the Mexican state airline, presented the Embraer E195 E2 aircraft, a fact that represents the prelude to the arrival of the first of 20 aircraft starting in May 2025.
Inside one of the hangars at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), Leonardo Ávila Bojórquez, director of the state-owned company, indicated that the first state-of-the-art aircraft purchased from the Brazilian firm will arrive in the second quarter of next year.
The executive said the aircraft has the capacity to transport 132 passengers, a range of 4,615 kilometers and a cruising speed of 963 kilometers per hour.

Ávila Bojórquez stressed that the 20 aircraft that have the capacity to transport 132 passengers will be fully incorporated into the fleet in 2027.
“With these strategic growth decisions and the capabilities of our employees, Mexicana will consolidate its position in the national air transport industry, offering a high-quality, punctual, innovative and efficient service, contributing to the economic and social development of our country,” said Ávila Bojórquez.
“Increasing the air fleet is essential to improving the quality and coverage of air services, as well as boosting connectivity, to be a driving force for growth, development and competitiveness at national and international level,” he stressed.

He noted that the latest aircraft in Embraer’s E2 family is designed to maximize performance and efficiency on high-demand routes, with low maintenance costs and fuel savings, which allows Mexicana to achieve its objectives, such as increasing flight frequencies and the number of destinations with competitive rates and strengthening national and international connectivity.
He noted that since December 26, 2023, the date on which it restarted operations after 13 years, it has transported more than 262 thousand passengers on 5,149 flights to 18 destinations, totaling more than 6,580 hours and 4,252 million kilometers traveled.

The director of the state-owned company also announced that it will soon offer domestic air cargo service through Mexicana Cargo Services, with which they seek to facilitate the movement of goods and services, promoting not only economic growth, but also regional integration.
“To achieve this, Mexicana has the infrastructure and aeronautical technical personnel, such as: highly qualified and certified crews, engineers and specialists, in accordance with international standards and strictly adhering to aeronautical regulations, to guarantee a reliable air service,” he said.

The executive recalled that in 2023, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador “identified the need to increase air connectivity between different points of the national territory, with the purpose of promoting economic and social development, job creation and tourism at a national level, as well as rescuing an iconic Mexican aviation company, recognized worldwide”, which led to the acquisition of the rights to the Mexicana de Aviación brand to use it as a commercial name for the Mexican State Airline.
