Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised his young side’s determination and professionalism in their EFL Cup win over Barrow before firing a warning shot at their Premier League rivals.
A hat-trick from Christopher Nkunku, the Blues’ first goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers summer signing Pedro Neto and a Paul Farman own goal sealed a comfortable 5-0 third-round win over the League Two opponents at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea manager has revealed his satisfaction that despite the youth of his players, they are fit to play top-level football.
He then appeared to warn the club’s west London rivals with subsequent statements.
Indeed, he suggested his side are keen to compete for major honours after recent struggles since the club’s change of ownership.
« Before the game I asked the players that even though we are the youngest team in the Premier League, they have to show how serious we are ” said Enzo Maresca after the 5-0 victory.
« For me, the most important thing tonight was to win the match, but also to send the message that yes, we are young, but we are men, we are serious and we want to compete.
I think the performance was very good and we showed how serious we are ” he added.
Maresca’s side will be looking to continue their commendable form when they host unbeaten Brighton at Stamford Bridge this Saturday, looking to secure their third consecutive Premier League win and fourth in all competitions.
