There is no gas in the “Khan Asparukh” block, but the government is silent – 2024-09-25 22:39:13

/ world today news/ Bulgaria will not become the Kuwait of the Balkans.

The exploratory drilling “Polshkov-1” (POL-1) of the French Total in a consortium with Repsol and OMV on the territory of the “Khan Asparuh” block in the Black Sea has ended without success. This was reported by well-informed sources.

The question is why the government is keeping this secret. And if so, will more millions of euros be spent on the second well planned for 2017?

In June, in response to a parliamentary question, the Minister of Energy Temenuzka Petkova stated in the National Assembly that after the completion of the first drilling activities, an analysis of the results will be carried out and the prospects of the block will be assessed. However, there is currently no such analysis.

After the successful explorations on the territory of Romania, Bulgaria expected about 73 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which, according to experts, should have reached us in about 30 years.

The consortium selected the facility of the American Noble Drilling Holding LLC. Before arriving to drill in the Black Sea, the vessel was on another exploration site in West Africa.

Exploratory drilling is one of the most expensive oil and gas prospecting and exploration operations
The entire investment that the consortium led by the French company committed to provide in the “Khan Asparuh” block in 2012 is worth 1 billion euros. In addition, the government was granted a record bonus of €40 million for obtaining the prospecting and exploration permit. Every year the state also receives an area fee in the amount of BGN 1.138 million, which in five years makes over BGN 5.7 million.
Since 2012, the most large-scale 3D and 2D seismic studies have been carried out in the block, respectively, on the basis of which the exact location for the drilling was selected. Preliminary estimates show that there are deposits of over 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Prime Minister Borissov expected Bulgaria to be able to save 4-5 to 6 billion dollars a year by starting to extract its own gas and oil.

Even if huge quantities were discovered in the “Khan Asparuh” block to be exported, our country would only receive the concession fee from them, and the rest of the revenue would go to the consortium that includes Total, Repsol and OMV, which develops the field .

The main exploration hopes next year are for oil rather than gas.

If the information does not correspond to the truth, it can be refuted by the competent authorities.
