The businessman and leader of the “Capital” circle, Ivo Prokopiev, aimed to take control of the Financial Supervision Commission, say the financial circles.
According to them, he wants to push the current chairman Stoyan Mavrodiev and install his own person. He pushed Dimana Rankova for Mavrodiev’s chair, financiers explain.
The attack against Mavrodiev comes because of the numerous fines that the FSC imposed on Ivo Prokopiev and his companies. However, the current head of the commission has another 2 years in office and cannot be easily replaced. In addition, they will jump from the European financial regulator for interfering in the independence of the Bulgarian body.
Dimana Rankova is a close friend of Ivo Prokopiev and became one of the “ladybugs” in finance, briefly switching between the Management Board of the Development Bank, chairman of the board of “Project Company Neftoprovod Burgas – Alexandroupolis – BG” and the Financial Supervisory Service.
After flying out of oversight, Rankova was taken under the wing of President Rosen Plevneliev as his adviser. Plevneliev went so far as to propose Rankova as a member of the BNB’s Board of Directors on the condition that the Commission for the Prevention and Detection of Conflict of Interest found a violation for her.
Rankova entered into a clear conflict of interest precisely with the privatization procedure of the two ERPs from the EVN group. As a civil servant and member of the FSC, she attended and lobbied at a forum for the sale of the 33% stake.
It is likely that now Ivo Prokopiev will again try to put his own people in the BNB and the Financial Supervisory Service, which he attacks every day.
