/ world today news/ Changing the candidate for UN Secretary General at the last moment will leave Bulgaria and the region as a whole with no chance of success. This was stated for bTV by the former president of Poland, Alexander Kwasniewski.
The reason for his comment is the series of questions surrounding the possible candidacy of European Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva for the prestigious post at the UN. Publications in some media again launched the option of Georgieva replacing Irina Bokova as the Bulgarian candidate.
“It is hard for me to understand and believe something like that. This would be a huge mistake. First of all, the procedures already started months ago and it will be very difficult to propose a new person at the end of the competition. Bulgaria has a very strong and respected candidate like Mrs. Bokova. “It’s hard for me to imagine that Bulgaria would make such a political mistake. You would lose all your chances,” Kwasniewski noted.
“Having a Secretary General from our part of Europe would be a huge success, but for Bulgaria this success would be historic. To destroy the chances that he has with Irina Bokova at the moment is more than a mistake,” Kwasniewski also said.
