There was a lot to criticize about FC Twente’s game on Sunday. Still, the Tukkers won 0-5 at Almere City.
Before half-time FC Twente did not play well, Jan van Staa also saw. “We saw two very different matches, before and after half-time. You simply give away far too many chances. Unnerstall stops great balls, he is in a class of his own”, he says in the Oosttribune. “And also those moments of Steijn again…”
FC Twente’s top scorer scored a brilliant header and took advantage of a mistake by defender James Lawrence just before half-time. “They brought Monica Geuze’s boyfriend from Wales. He sets it up nicely, but Steijn finishes it off well,” said Tijmen van Wissing. “If he gets a chance near the goal, he goes in. Great to see.”
According to Van Staa, a lot of things went wrong in the first 45 minutes. “Defensively, it was just not very manly. Winning duels, that just didn’t happen in the first half. Far too much loss of possession, then the pressure increases”, the analyst explains. “It was exceptional that it was 0-2 at half-time.” Van Wissing agrees. “I was shocked by Carel Eiting in possession. And Daan Rots also on the side for once… That underlined the incompetence in football terms.”
