Milan. Another early goal from Christian Pulisic, and this one had a positive outcome for AC Milan.
The American striker scored in the 10th minute to put Milan ahead and Inter responded through Federico Dimarco in the 27th, but the Rossoneri claimed a 2-1 victory in the Derbi della Madonnina thanks to Matteo Gabbia’s goal two minutes from time.
It was Milan’s first win over their arch-rivals since 2022.
Milan also prevented Inter from claiming what would have been a record seven consecutive derby wins.
It also served as a relief to Rossoneri coach Paulo Fonseca, who had only managed one win in his first five games, having lost 3-1 to Liverpool in the Champions League midweek.
Pulisic scored early at San Siro against Liverpool and did so again on Sunday. Henrikh Mkhitaryan tried to chest the ball but Pulisic got hold of it and shrugged off three defenders before firing a shot into the bottom left corner.
A turbulent week for Roma concluded with the team’s first win of the season and an encouraging debut for new coach Ivan Jurić.
Ukrainian Artem Dovbyk’s goal in the 19th minute and Argentine Paulo Dybala’s penalty at the start of the second half set the team on the path to victory at the Stadio Olimpico.
Tomasso Baldanzini sealed the win in the team’s first Serie A game since Daniele De Rossi’s shock dismissal on Wednesday.
Many Roma fans were upset with the decision to let go of De Rossi, with much of their anger directed at CEO and general manager Lina Souloukou, who resigned early on Sunday.
The Curva Sud — where the most fervent fans are located — was empty for the first half hour in protest by the fans, with a long banner reading: “They do not respect our values or our icons, from today we return to the times before.”
There were also several banners around the stadium in support of De Rossi.
On the pitch, Roma dominated from the start against an Udinese side that started the weekend at the top of the Italian league.
