Tinus, Yuc. During a tour of the cars of the Maya P’atal Train, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that he will retire satisfied, grateful to the people, without leaving anything pending and without having failed the people. Meanwhile, the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, said she felt happy.
To the governors who accompanied him on this trip, which began in Cancun and will end in Merida, he said that he does not leave them any advice or recommendations because “they are very experienced men and women, very responsible, aware, with a social dimension, who have a lot of love for the people.”
For this reason, he said, “I am going to retire, or rather, I am going to retire, very peacefully.”
-As a teacher?
Yes, but I’m done now; like all teachers, they also retire.
Although some governors considered this trip to be a farewell, the president said that “I will not be able to see some of them so closely these days.”
But, he said, “we will be seeing each other because we will participate in the ceremony, together, of presenting the Presidential Sash to the woman who will soon be the best president in the world.”
López Obrador explained that three of the 24 leaders of the movement were absent: Rubén Rocha, from Sinaloa, and Miguel Ángel Navarro, from Nayarit, because “they have occupations, they have tasks in their states” and neither was Martí Batres, head of government of Mexico City, present; but his successor, Clara Brugada, was present.
The president said he was “satisfied” ten days after leaving office. “I am grateful to the people, because we have done this together, from the bottom up. Millions of women and men have participated in the transformation of the country.”
-Do you have any pending tasks, do you feel that you have not accomplished anything?
-No, but you know that my critics, my adversaries, answer that question. They have a very long list of our mistakes – he said ironically.
Sheinbaum shouted: “He didn’t fail at anything.”
Earlier, he said that the train is beautiful, as are the Tren Maya hotels. “Everything is wonderful. And also, in the company of the governors, very beautiful!”
The president said goodbye with “a round of applause for the journalists.”
