For the first eight months of the year, 279 persons were arrested and found guilty of embezzlement. For the period January-August 2015, 338 persons were found to have committed illegal trafficking of migrants.
The data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs do not contain information – how many of those detained for channeling are detained for a second or even a third time. The services do not know how many of those caught in traffic have received effective or conditional sentences.
Only 662 illegally residing foreign citizens have been able to be removed from the country by the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs since the beginning of the year, the reference also indicates. 14 third-country nationals were returned to member states of the European Union under the Dublin Regulation. From January 1 to September 22, five EU citizens were deported from Bulgaria.
On the basis of the Readmission Agreement between Bulgaria and Turkey, which has been implemented since June 1, 2016, 41 foreign citizens have been returned from the country to our south-eastern neighbor. During the same period, our country requested the return to Turkey of a total of 1,059 persons.
