(ANSA) – MILAN, SEPTEMBER 23 – A walk of about 200 km, from Assisi (Perugia) to Rome, in the company of your four-legged friends to rediscover and cultivate the value of the relationship between man and animals immersed in nature. This is what is planned for the seventh edition of the “Walk for Animals”, the event, which began yesterday, in favor of animal rights that retraces on foot the path of Francis of Assisi to convey his universal message of love, compassion and respect towards all creatures. The walk, divided into 13 stages – explain the organizers – will end in St. Peter’s Square in Rome on October 4, the day that sees the celebration of the Saint and to bring a collective appeal to Pope Francis. The initiative, free and open to anyone who intends to participate, from individuals of all ages to associations or organized groups, requires that walkers be accompanied by socialized dogs, accustomed to long walks and not fragile, biting, puppies or elderly and is divided into stages ranging from 12 to a maximum of 22 km. The event will allow “a strong dimension of sociality, the contemplation of the suggestive Umbrian-Lazio landscapes and meditation in nature or in the hermitages that dot the route, but above all it gives space to sharing time with animals and moments of comparison and study on issues related to the environment, health and nutrition in relation to the animal world”, it is explained. “It is now well established that a large part of the environmental problems we are experiencing are closely linked to the way we treat animals. Intensive farming and deforestation to convert land to fodder production, for example, are among the most impactful causes of the climate crisis”, says Angelo Vaira, dog trainer and founder of the relational cognitive approach with his school ThinkDog and creator of the event.
