20.09.2024. Russia.- Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin will not attend the inauguration of Claudia Sheinbaum as the first female president of Mexico.

Alexander Shchetinin, director of the Latin American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced that Putin had appointed a representative for the event on October 1.

The Russian official thanked the formal invitation and reported that the organizers of Sheinbaum Pardo’s inauguration already know the person who will travel to Mexico to represent Putin.

“The president’s emissary will be there, representing our head of state,” Shchetinin said in an interview with RTVI.

In the context of the announcement of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s victory in the last presidential elections on June 2, Vladimir Putin congratulated the president-elect and highlighted the good relations between both countries.

However, it is not ruled out that the decision was taken after it became known that the International Court has requested Putin’s arrest from 2023 on the grounds that he is responsible for the kidnapping of Ukrainian girls and boys, a war crime that has not been recorded since the era of the Nazi movement led by Hitler.

It is also noted that Putin’s absence will solve a protocol problem, given the possibility that Vladimir Putin and First Lady Jill Biden, who will represent the United States, will coincide at the ceremony, since Joe Biden never attends an inauguration as president of the United States.

The International Court accuses Vladimir Putin of being responsible for the kidnapping of Ukrainian children, among other war crimes.
