The Government of Guatemala, through the Embassy in Peru, is supporting two Guatemalans who were injured in an accident that happened in Machu Picchu on September 16.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex), the Guatemalans, a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were traveling by bus as part of a tourist group when the accident happened.

Medical care and assistance
The two Guatemalans are receiving medical attention in Cusco. The woman suffered a fracture that required surgery and must rest for a few days before she can continue her journey.
The travel agency in charge of the group takes care of their air transfer from Cusco to Lima, while medical expenses are covered through travel insurance.
Commitment of the Government of Guatemala
The Government of Guatemala has reaffirmed its commitment to support and protect injured Guatemalans so that they can return to their place of residence.
The Guatemalan Embassy in Peru also said that 324 Guatemalans are registered as residents in the country.
The disaster at Machu Picchu
The accident occurred when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle while descending the path that connects the archaeological site of Machu Picchu to the town of Aguas Calientes. The bus fell about 15 meters down a slope, leaving 30 tourists injured, including Mexicans, Italians, Chileans and Guatemalans.
All the injured were transferred to the city of Cusco to receive medical treatment. [Tomado de AGN]
