That was bitter. SV Grohn suffered a knockout in the 89th minute of the top match in the regional football league against the leaders Leher Turnerschaft, who had not lost a single point. The third goal conceded after a set piece sealed the “Hussars'” first defeat of the season yesterday afternoon. They remain in second place in the table, behind Leher TS.
But the team around player-coach Jan-Philipp Heine wanted at least a draw. “That’s really annoying,” commented the Grohner coach after the final whistle and the short speech to his team. In it, he immediately prepared the team for the upcoming task: the northern derby at 1. FC Burg on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The hosts had offered the seaside town team the “fiery top match” they had announced on the Oeversberg grass pitch. A win would have been possible. In the end, the Grohn team was left empty-handed. “If we were to play today’s game again, we wouldn’t let it slip away, I can’t imagine that,” said Jan-Philipp Heine. The only criticism the hosts have to put up with is that they were too careless with crystal clear goal chances. “In the first half, we missed a few 100% chances. We should really be leading 3-1 at half-time,” said Jan-Philipp Heine. Instead, SV Grohn had to equalize twice. But first things first.
In the interplay between Alan Abdo and Dustin Lübber, the latter surprisingly got the ball again in front of the empty goal after a goalkeeping mistake, but passed it across instead of finishing himself (3′). The result was a 0-1 goal after a corner. Fardin Azizi was able to cross again and Karim Stüben headed the ball over all the Grohn players into the goal (9′). Then there was a 20-minute break because Shefik Osmani had to be taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder after a hard tackle by Lasse Thielebeule. After the restart, the home team came back into the game better and was rewarded with a deserved equaliser thanks to a great lob from Dustin Lübber (45’+2). And five minutes before the end of stoppage time in the first half, Ertan Kilic should have made it 2-1 for SV Grohn. Lehe’s goalkeeper Lukas Katarius let a powerful free kick from Yasin Chaaban bounce forward, but Grohn’s team captain put the ball over the goal.
The second half was not even four minutes old when the guests were leading again. Karim Stüben placed a direct shot into the corner of the goal after a pass from Mika Hasanspahic. Alan Abdo also hit the top corner to equalize at 2:2 with his shot from the 16-meter line (53′). In the following period, the action went back and forth, even though both sides were losing energy due to the summer temperatures. But in the end, the guests scored the lucky punch through Azad Gökdogan. The red card against Yasin Chaaban for kicking in the fifth minute of the six-minute stoppage time was completely unnecessary.
