Barbara Horawianka – who was she?

Barbara Horawianka was born on May 14, 1930 in Katowice. She dreamed of an acting career since childhood. At the age of five, she performed on the stage of the Wyspiański Theatre in Katowice. As part of the middle school drama school, she played in “Fircyk w zalotach”, directed by Tadeusz Łomnicki.

She began her acting career in 1951 on the stage of the Rapsodic Theatre in Kraków. She then played at the Poetry Theatre and the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre. Her performance as Ophelia in “Hamlet” was to impress Kazimierz Dejmek, who invited her to the New Theatre in Łódź. She then worked with him many times at the National Theatre and the Polish Theatre in Warsaw.

Her partner was actor Mieczysław Voit.

Barbara Horawianka – the most important roles

She made her big screen debut in the 1950s. She played supporting roles in such classics as “Train” (1959), “Crusaders” (1960) or “The Passenger” (1963). In 1966 she played the main role in the film based on the story by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. “The Lovers of Marona” (1966) by Jerzy Zarzycki.

Her filmography also includes “Marysia and Napoleon” (1966), “Loneliness for Two” (1968), “Mrs. Latter’s Pension” (1982), “Historia immoralna” (1990), “Pułkownik Kwiatkowski” (1995) and “Obywatel” (2014). Her last role on the big screen was in the film “Arbiter Uwaga” (2014).

She played regularly in series. On the small screen, we could see her in such productions as “Daleko od szosy”, “W labiryncie”, “Modrzejewska”, “M jak miłość” and “Samo życie”. She also guest-starred in the series “Stawka niż życie”, “Na dobre i złe” and “Plebania”.
