AMLO and Sheinbaum inaugurate the Benito Juárez Road in Oaxaca

Guelatao de Juarez, OaxacaPresident Andrés Manuel López Obrador and President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated this afternoon the “Camino de Benito Juárez”, a corridor that is intended to become a new tourist attraction for this state.

The journey recreates the walk that the little shepherd made in his childhood. On December 17, 1818, at the age of 12, Juárez left his village and went into the middle of the Zapotec mountains to go to the city of Oaxaca, in search of his sister María Josefa. The journey cost 249 million pesos.

From this historic land, birthplace of the Benemérito de las Américas, the federal president reaffirmed his affection for this state: “I am in love with Oaxaca.” He even described it as “the main cultural sanctuary of Mexico.”

Hundreds of Oaxacans from various parts of the state who gathered to witness the president’s last visit to these lands, shouted to ask him to stay. “Don’t go,” “We will miss you.”

Faced with this, and clinging to the traditional indigenous baton of command that was given to him upon his arrival in this town, the head of the Executive reaffirmed his Maderist principles: “Effective suffrage, no reelection.”

He said that no one can complain that things have gone badly in economic terms during this six-year term. And he stressed that businessmen and bankers have done very well.

He stressed that the economic model developed during his administration works and emphasized again that 9.5 million Mexicans have been lifted out of poverty during this six-year term.

For her part, Claudia Sheimbaum insisted that she will govern under the principles of Mexican humanism.

In line with López Obrador, the future president stressed that Mexico’s cultural greatness is one of the pillars of the nation.

He promised to return to Guelatao on March 21, when another anniversary of the birth of Benito Juárez will be celebrated, and he guaranteed that he will continue with the artisanal paths program, to the point that it will be extended to municipal agencies.

In this context, it was reported that the program included 216 artisanal roads for Oaxaca, of which 202 have been completed, totaling 2,800 kilometers of labor. The investment was more than 12 billion pesos.

Due to the cultural, social and economic impact of this type of roads, the project was extended to nine states.
