Berlin. Reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen (4th) put their previous defeat behind them by thrashing Hoffenheim (12th) away from home (4-1) on Saturday in the third Bundesliga matchday, while Leipzig – who had just beaten Leverkusen – could only draw 0-0 at home against Union Berlin (8th).
Leipzig, Atlético Madrid’s opponent on Thursday in the first round of the Champions League, despite dropping two points to the capital team, remains unbeaten and joint-top of the table with seven points alongside Borussia Dortmund, who on Friday had halted Heidenheim’s good start (4-2).
One point behind is Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, who will visit Dutch side Feyenoord also on Thursday in Championsdid not suffer from the defeat suffered at home before the international break against Leipzig (3-2), and handed a 4-1 to Hoffenheim with a double from the Nigerian striker Victor Boniface (30, 75), and goals from the French Martin Terrier (17) and the German international Florian Wirtz (72).
Leverkusen are fourth with six points, the same as Bayern Munich, who visit Holstein Kiel on Saturday (16:30 GMT) and could go top of the table with a win.
Eintracht Frankfurt (6th) also have six points, having won 2-1 in Wolfsburg (10th) with a double from the Egyptian Omar Marmoush, and Freiburg (7th), who won by the same score at home against bottom club Bochum and with another double, from the Austrian Junior Adamu.
The other German team in ChampionsStuttgart (9th), who will make their debut at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday against Real Madrid, achieved their first victory in the 2024-2025 Bundesliga at the expense of Borussia Mönchengladbach (3-1 away from home).
