An American man who thought his electricity bills were too high finally realized he was also paying his neighbor’s.
A few months ago, an American wanted to reduce the cost of his bills, which he considered to be far too high.
He first tried to reduce his consumption, notably by purchasing a device that controls the amount of watts consumed by his appliances.
He then turned off the circuit breaker completely and surprise! His meter continued to run despite everything.
The Californian then alerted his electricity company, whose agent came to verify that this was indeed the case.
He has since been credited with $600
Cnews reports that in a press release to ABC, “The company said the Californian had been paying the electricity bill for the apartment next door to his for at least 15 years, three years after he moved in.”. She also acknowledged her mistake and assures that she is “determined to rectify the situation with the customer”.
According to the company, this had been going on since 2006, when the neighbour moved in, but for the injured customer it had been going on for even longer, for 18 years.
His meter has since been repaired and the customer has been credited $600.
The company has asked all its customers to check that the meter number on their bill corresponds to the same number as that of their home.
