Radio Bergeijk
“His strength really lay in improvising,” says van Muiswinkel. With actor and comedian George van Houts, Bouwman made the satirical radio program Radio Bergeijk at the VPRO. “The tune of this program makes the hairs on your neck stand on end because you remember how much fun that was. They crossed boundaries that people in Europe didn’t dare to cross on the radio.”
Born in Eindhoven, Bouwman was one of the first members of the Comedytrain in the early 1990s, a company of stand-up comedians founded by Raoul Heertje.
Bouwman later collaborated with Hans Teeuwen and cartoonist Gummbah in the absurdist theatre programme that was adapted into a television series Poelmo, slave of the south. He had already made absurdist radio sketches with Teeuwen in the VPRO program The Evenings under the title The men of the radio.
