This morning he was able to promote his new German hit on various radio stations. Hello, Hello, I Don’t Give A Shit has been released today and it is the first time that René Karst seeks his salvation across the border. “Ich bin ganz zufrieden.”
“It kind of happened to me,” says the singer and Radio Drenthe presenter about the origins of his German hit. Together with an Austrian friend, he came up with the idea to make his song I really don’t give a damn about that to translate into German. “I recorded the first one as a demo and we sent the song over there as a joke. Then they said: who is that? We’d like to sign this.” That’s how the new project for Karst came about.
The record company advised Karst to translate this song. “Actually, a German would Scheissegal never say, they are too modest for that. But if it is a Dutchman who says that, then the Germans just think it is funny.”
Karst has mainly been heard on Dutch radio stations this morning, so it remains a bit of a question for him what kind of success his German adventure will be. “But if more comes along, then there are already two original German songs ready.” Can we also count on a translation of an existing hit? “We have Atje for the atmosphere also done.”
The way things are done in the eastern neighbours is completely different than Karst is used to in the Netherlands, especially when it comes to promoting his song. “They have chosen not to make a video clip, but to invest the money in influencers who are trying to make it big on TikTok. I think it is very funny that it happens like that and who am I to tell a German record company to do it in a different way.”
