US investor joins Vienna-based flight software company

The EduTech-Startup Cubilog has developed a learning cube-app combination that allows children aged five to eight to learn interactively, with analog and digital support.

Cubilog is a combination of software and hardware: Interactive eBooks can be downloaded via the Cubilog app for Android and iOS and used on mobile devices.

Dice app combo from Burgenland

Cubilog was founded as FlexCo by Andreas Gradinger, Daniel Stojnic and Carina Fröhlich. The startup is currently based in Neufeld an der Leitha in Burgenland. Co-founder Fröhlich is the elementary school teacher in the team, while Gradinger and Stojnic take care of software and company development.

There is also a hardware solution, the so-called Sense Cube – a cube equipped with sensors. This can be connected to the Cubilog app via Bluetooth and allows children to interact playfully using various sensors. The cube features a rotary knob, a microphone, a motion sensor and buttons, among other things.

Knowledge, dexterity, gross and fine motor skills

The interactive elements are intended to promote children’s gross and fine motor skills, as well as their dexterity and visuomotor skills. The buttons are also intended to support navigation and understanding of spatial directions. The microphone also enables children to strengthen their tongue and mouth muscles by speaking and blowing.

“The Sense Cube offers children a new form of interactivity, as they are given tasks in the eBooks that they can solve by consciously operating the sensors,” says Carina Fröhlich, co-founder of Cubilog.

The eBooks available in the app are written by the founding team themselves. They are already working with a primary school, where the team is getting input on content in consultation with teachers. For example, a story focusing on general education topics is currently in the works. As part of the stories, the children are regularly given interactive tasks that they can solve using motor skills on the Sense Cube.

Multisensory learning for STEMM

With the app-cube combination, the founding team aims to promote multisensory learning and to make inclusion tangible through the content of the eBooks provided.

“Through Cubilog, the children gain new experiences and knowledge in a playful and interactive way. In terms of content, we focus primarily on the STEMMK area, i.e. mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, art and technology.”

Kindergarten and primary school in sight

For the time being, Cubilog’s content is aimed at children in their last compulsory year of kindergarten as preparation for school, as well as at the first and second grades of primary school. In terms of sales, the company wants to primarily target parents and promote the private use of the Sense Cube. However, further collaborations with educational institutions are also in the works.

To date, the EduTech startup has been sustained by the aws First Incubator funding and its own resources. They are now also looking for investors. They are also currently setting up their own webshop. And the stories will soon be available not only in German, but also in English.
