The man who was arrested yesterday after being stabbed at the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam is suspected of murder and attempted murder with terrorist intent. The 22-year-old from Amersfoort was already known to the police for violent crimes.
The investigation so far has produced indications that the suspect may be ideologically motivated, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reports. For example, the suspect shouted “Allahu akbar” several times during the shooting.
The man is under full restraints and will be brought before the investigating judge on Monday, who will decide if he remains in custody any longer. according to The Telegraph the suspect Ayoub M., who participates in a assisted living project in Amersfoort.
A 32-year-old man from Rotterdam was killed in the accident. A 33-year-old man from Switzerland was seriously injured. He has now been released from the hospital.

The police spent a large part of the night investigating the Erasmus Bridge. The suspect walked around with two large knives and attacked people. Witnesses say the man first injured someone in the parking garage on the north side of the bridge. He then walked along the water to Willemsplein, on the Nieuwe Maas.
He was eventually overcome by, among others, the sports instructor Reniël Litecia, who provided training under the Erasmus Bridge. Seeing that “a young lad was stabbing,” the Litecia decided to chase the man. The suspect entered the Remastered exhibition space, where a party was going on at the time.
When the man wanted to go back outside, he stood facing Litecia. “I took my two out of my bag squat sticks“I broke him in two,” the sports teacher said of him last night, “He came to me at the door and I had to give him a few taps in the face. I took the knives away and threw them in a corner.” After the man fell, Litecia and bystanders held him until the police arrived.
