Demand for more than 42,000 new aircraft is expected over the next 20 years

Over the next 20 years, demand is forecast for more than 42,000 new aircraft deliveries, of which 18,460 will be to replace older aircraft, according to Airbus’ Global Services Forecast (GSF) 2024-2043.

Traffic growth, fleet evolution, aircraft replacement, digitalisation facilitated by connectivity and efficiency will drive demand for services over the next 20 years.

It is expected the commercial services market to reach $290 billion by 2043, for the “Maintenance”, “Training and Operation” and “Improvement” sectors, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.5%.

More dismantling and overhaul facilities are expected to become available around the world to reuse, repair and recycle aircraft components.s. The fastest regional growth in services is expected to occur in South Asia, China and the Middle East.

The rapid pace of digitalisation, enabled by connectivity, is one of the biggest advances in the aviation industry. In the future, connecting collaborative communities will be the cornerstone to breaking down silos and improving overall efficiency. It will be key to optimising flight operations, technical operations and ground operations. Widespread access to integrated, harmonised digital connectivity solutions will enable a flexible, user-centric approach, with personalised use of data. Furthermore, enhanced connectivity will enable a seamless experience for passengers, at any time.

This connected ecosystem will attract an increasing number of people with digital skills. Improving the skills required by the digital environment will increase job attractiveness, helping to mitigate future labor shortages and improve operational efficiency.
