World Tourism Day dedicated to peace

Tahiti, September 19, 2024 – World Tourism Day will be celebrated on September 27, as it is every year. An event inspired and thought out by the World Tourism Organization, which this year wishes to highlight the importance of the sector in promoting peace. An initiative relayed in the territory by Tahiti Tourisme, which is planning three days of celebration for the occasion.

Tourism and peace. While the two concepts may not seem to be linked at first glance, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) sees them as an opportunity to build bridges between the world’s leading economic activity and this geopolitical ideal. With World Tourism Day fast approaching, the UNWTO has seized the opportunity to reconcile the two subjects: “This day aims to raise awareness among the international community about the importance of tourism and the social, cultural, political and economic values that accompany it,” explains Tahiti Tourisme, the organization in charge of World Tourism Day in Polynesia. “The aim is to strengthen understanding between nations and cultures, as well as support for reconciliation processes. This theme highlights the role of tourism in building a harmonious world, by promoting the rapprochement of peoples and peace.”

A desire marked this year by the choice of Tahiti Tourisme to extend the local experience for three days, from September 27 to 29, in Tahiti and its islands. These days will be an opportunity to highlight the city of Papeete,” underlines Tahiti Tourism. “The assembly of French Polynesia will offer various exhibitions on traditional crafts (weaving, preparation of mono’i, parade of young local creators) and the different know-how of Tahiti and its islands. The Papeete market will also be animated by a musical orchestra during the morning of Friday, September 27. The Fare Manihini of Tahiti Tourisme will also be animated by kaina orchestras and Sunday visitors will be able to try their luck to win prizes by answering a quiz.”

And for this year, Tahiti Tourisme is also organizing a big “life-size treasure hunt” which will be held from Monday 23 to Sunday 29 September, on the islands of Tahiti and Moorea. A simple concept within everyone’s reach: “All you have to do is download the Grall app on Android or Apple, go to the twenty selected sites in Tahiti and Moorea and answer a question about sustainable tourism. A draw will select the ten winners, who will receive tickets to the following events: Tere Tū’aro nui (October 26), Tere Ha’avinivini (November 30) and Tere Fa’ati ia Tahiti Nui (January 25, 2025). To participate, you just have to answer a single question about one of the tourist sites.” Everyone to your applications!
