EBRD appoints new Senior Director for SEMED region

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Mark Davis as Senior Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region. He will take up his duties on 1is October 2024.

Mr. Davis succeeds Heike Harmgart, recently appointed Senior Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at the EBRD.

A US national, Mr. Davis is currently the EBRD’s Regional Manager for Central Europe, which includes Croatia, Hungary, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

With 28 years of experience in international financial institutions and commercial banks, Mr. Davis has a strong background in business development in the European Union, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as well as expertise in global capital markets and structural policy dialogue. Prior to joining the EBRD, he held senior positions at the World Bank, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.

Since launching its operations in the SEMED region in 2012, the EBRD has invested more than €22.3 billion in 414 projects, supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, fostering the agribusiness sector, developing local infrastructure and services, and supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency and the development of local capital markets.

The EBRD is a multilateral bank that fosters private sector development and entrepreneurship in 36 economies on three continents. It is owned by 73 countries, as well as the European Union and the European Investment Bank. The Bank’s investments aim to make the economies of its regions of operations competitive, inclusive, well-governed, green, resilient and integrated.
