Transformation is the “cure for the evil of corruption and it is how we are facing decadence,” said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who said in his morning press conference that after Presidents Benito Juárez, Francisco I. Madero and General Lázaro Cárdenas “all the rest of us are second class. Some, maybe, third and fourth class.”
He said that political and social processes cannot be extrapolated because each nation has its own history. “Brazil is not the same as Mexico, nor is France the same as Mexico, nor is the United States the same as Mexico.”
“Each country has its own cultural background, its own processes of transformation. We are fortunate because we have an exceptional, splendid pre-Hispanic past. We are heirs to great civilizations, great cultures. That is today’s Mexico,” he said.
He said that Mexicans “stand out in the world for that past… we are hard-working, very fraternal, very honest. Mexico’s greatest wealth is the honesty of its people. For centuries they wanted to corrupt all Mexicans. They went so far as to say that corruption was all of us, that it was part of the culture of the people and the opposite.”
With the great reserve of cultural, spiritual and moral values that we have, “we face adversities, misfortunes, calamities, earthquakes, floods, pandemics, bad governments and we always stand up.”
